• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

According to Joanne Harris (Chocolat, etc), quoted in The Bookseller today, "Authors are being told to write under pseudonyms to present themselves as debut writers and feed the publishing industry’s “obsession” with new, marketable voices."

Has anyone else noticed this trend? I wish I had -- they can start being obsessed with me and my mss as soon as they like. New readers start here, please.

I wonder why she thinks so?

And in other Bookseller news, according to an interview in the New York Times,
E L James turns to paranormal with 'ghost story set in London' Ghostly rattling chains instead of cable ties??

I think Joanne Harris seems to be saying that she's heard or been told that established authors should in future write under pseudonyms -- i.e. almost relaunch themselves under another name.

But, yes, if there is an obsession, bring it on. I'm ready for my debut.
