Possibly The World’s Smallest Writing Contest?
Writing competitions routinely try to outdo each other in braggadocio… Ours is the biggest… We have the most prestigious judges… Our prizes are the most lavish… and so on.
Well, here in the Colony, we’ve probably got what may be the world’s smallest writing contest – One Perfect Sentence.
And yes, that’s all we’re really looking for: just a few words that, in sentence form, can’t be improved.
Oh, and you’ll like the judges, too – the winner is declared by popular vote. All entries are anonymous, so no favouritism, either.
Care to try your hand? Entry is free.
And yet… great books are built from great sentences. Master the art of the perfect sentence, and you’re golden.
To vote, click on the entry's "up" button as circled below:
The number underneath indicates the current number of votes the entry has received:
You can quickly sort all the entries to see which one is in the lead - go the the first entry after the writing prompt and click on "Sort by votes":
As far as prizes are concerned… I've ruled out a Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir... too hard to obtain... so we'll award you some LitCoins instead!

Yes: you really can write that one, perfect sentence.
The sentence that perfectly expresses your writer’s intention.
The sentence that creates a perfect union between you and your reader.
It’s possible.
And you’ll know, instinctively, when you’ve written it.

Litopia’s ONE PERFECT SENTENCE monthly competition is a lot of fun to take part in – but it has a serious purpose, too. Unlike other writing contests – even short story contests – it doesn’t deplete your all-too-precious writing time. After all… it’s just one sentence!
And yet… great books are built from great sentences. Master the art of the perfect sentence, and you’re golden.
The Rules...
The contest runs 7-21, i.e. it starts on the 7th of the month and ends on the 21st. After the writing prompt has been given, you’ve got plenty of time to craft and make your entries. You can make as many entries as you’d like (we may draw the line at dozens from the same person – just saying). Please remember to make your entry anonymous - tick the “Posting as Anonymous?” box to do so.
And Then Vote!
You can vote for as many entries as you want (you won’t be able to vote for your own).To vote, click on the entry's "up" button as circled below:
