I've seen the five points template applied to screenplays, but I'm thinking it applies to fiction just as easily:

This link is exceptionally useful in looking at your own work with fresh perspective, and I highly recommend everyone give this a read. It's entertaining if nothing else. Hopefully, all of you will look at each step listed and the examples, and realize how you pulled over the very same thing at the very same time with expert precision. "This is when I... and this is when I... yup I have that..."'
