• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

A new writing award, the Cheshire Novel Prize, with £1,500 for the winner and a £500 runner up prize, has been launched. Submissions run from 1st January to 1st April 2022.

(More from The Bookseller. It is probably firewalled, so not posting link.)

An entry fee of GBP25 is payable, though some grants are available. Organisers say 10% of all fees will go to charities chosen by the judges.

The competition is open to unagented writers over the age of 18, of any nationality, resident in any country. All entries will receive "feedback on their writing" from judges including Juliet Mushens, Jessie Burton's agent.
