Basic
Good morning all,
I'm Rob, based in Wiltshire in the UK. I have 2 young children that exhaust us so much I gave up my job in order to properly complete the novel I'm working on. Evenings after bedtime just weren't me at my best... luckily I have a very supportive wife who in fact suggested this approach.
This will be my 3rd 'finishing' of the novel. The first completed novel was so one-dimensional it didn't even have a shadow. The second was way too over-complicated and had some hugely exciting and dramatic chapters that bore absolutely no relation to the story and were clearly there to make the plot work. I know this because I made the decision to have it critiqued at Faber Academy, which wasn't cheap but was incredible and I highly recommend it.
I am learning my craft and by my mistakes - of which there are many - and hope the more I work at it the better it will get. I've got until about January when the kids will need to incorporate bread and water into their meals as we run out of money and/or are spending it all on energy bills. But one day a week is fine, right?
I'm fortunate to be on Litopia on 31st July so if you're watching I'd value your honesty. Constructive criticism is so hard to find! I'm here because the wonderful Emily at Litopia (who has been amazing) pointed me this way.
Otherwise I'm a football fan, a slow runner, and a chess player. I love stories in every single form; children's, songs, books, TV, movies and try to learn something from all of them.
I'm now off to look up the word brevity as someone told me it might be useful.
