Kindle Countdown Deal?

Does anyone have experience with Amazon Kindle Countdown Deals? I'm doing my first one on June 3rd, but don't know anything about the program other than what Amazon describes. What was your experience, or what have you heard? And advice? I've done my fair share of ebook giveaways (usually marketing through Twitter), but with varied success, "selling" anywhere from 2 to 50 books in each event.

I tried one out a couple of months ago (pen name, non fiction, narrow subject). I didn't expect any action, but had a couple of hundred downloads and a few sales).
