• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Once upon a time in Litopia… our writers gathered for a weekly Huddle and turned familiar stories upside-down…

This coming Saturday at 5:00 PM (UK time), we invite you to join your fellow Litopians for a playful yet professional creative challenge. The virtual doors open at 4:30 PM for casual chat (grab a cuppa and say hello!), and the Huddle officially kicks off at 5:00. Don’t miss this chance to spark your imagination and connect with your writing friends.

This Week’s Challenge: Re-Plot a Fairy Tale

What if Little Red Riding Hood were narrated by the Big Bad Wolf? How would Cinderella unfold from the perspective of her “evil” stepmother?

By flipping the protagonist or narrator, we’ll explore your plot’s structure and character motives in a whole new light.

This fun challenge lets you consider how to build a solid plot while also seeing how perspective shapes a story’s tone and outcome.

How to Prepare (No Writing Needed!)

To get ready for the Huddle, here’s what to do:
  • Pick a Favourite Tale: Choose a fairy tale or classic story you know well (think of childhood favourites or legendary myths).
  • Choose a New Hero (or Villain!): Identify a different character to tell the story. It might be the villain, a sidekick, a bystander, or even the “big bad” character’s point of view.
  • Outline the Plot Flip: Jot down a few notes on how the story might go from this new perspective. What key events change, and what motivations come to the forefront? How does the wolf, the stepmother, or the giant see the world differently from the original hero? Does the conflict resolve differently? Make a few notes so you can explain these ideas.
  • Bring Your Notes: That’s it! No need to write a full story—just bring some notes for you to use – and of course, lots of enthusiasm. During the Huddle, you’ll have a few minutes to share your chosen tale and how you’ve reimagined it. This is a low-pressure, high-fun exercise meant to get our creative gears turning.
Remember: the goal is to play with perspective and see how a story changes when you turn it on its head. This isn’t a competition or formal presentation – it’s a friendly round-table of ideas.
