• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

♀️ Good to be here.
I’m Becky from North-West UK. I write under B Fleetwood (Fleetwood is one of my forenames). Independently published a YA Sci-Fi trilogy (the Chroma Series) 2016-2021. Hit ‘Pop-Up’ with my contemporary women’s UpLit fiction last year (2022) & living in hope it will attract a publishing deal
Love: G&T/ toddlers (I run a pre-school group) / reading (all manner of genres) / emojis / pasta / Greek salad & travel
Hate: misogyny / extremism / dog poo / wasps (no, they have no purpose ) & one line rejection emails
Believe writers should support & help each other… if only humanity would do the same
Happy writing
Becky

Hello @BeckyFleetwood, Welcome. :) If you came top on our Pop-ups you must be good!!! Could you remind us of the tittle and what it was about? I usually remember good women fiction- did it have a tongue-in-cheek approach?

Hello, @BeckyFleetwood! Great to meet you! Looking forward to reading and helping if possible and... just chatting really. Got any good pasta and salad recipes?
Hi David
Off top of my head an amazing veggie salad (not pasta) - roast potatoes cut into bite sized & sliced peppers (tossed in olive oil) / dry fry thin courgette circles/ toss salad leaves & tomatoes in pesto + olive oil dressing then add hot ingredients & serve - Yum! What’s your go-to dish? Becky

Hi Eva
Nice to meet you. I was over the moon with the Pop-Up comments.
My book, a ‘Calendar Girls’ / sisterhood style read: Dancing Fools & all that Jazz
Mature dancing ladies win their way through to the Paris final of an amateur competition but they’re carrying more baggage than just their costumes. My lovely narrator - Bev - sang part of the narration which seemed to go down a storm! It was last June

Hi Becky, and welcome.
FYI, in my other life I am Bev, and your submission was a joy to read. Xxx
Eee Bev - you were brill! Sorry it’s taken this long to find my way here & thank you. Hope you’re employed as a narrator. If not, you should be.
Been round the houses with the dance novel but latest is it’s under consideration with Head of Zeus - big fingers crossed here. Follow up book coming on slowly.
Do you write?

Well, I try to write. And I get lots of fantastic feedback from this crew - so much so that I'm always rewriting, lol. Currently working on a comedy memoir, but it's dredging up a lot of memories so keep having to have 'distraction days' (which involve an inordinate amount of charity shops and nice cappuccinos).

Good luck with it - my issue is I’m too easily distracted. Take care X

A very warm welcome to the colony, @BeckyFleetwood

Nice to have you here. Hope you enjoy Litopia and do get involved as soon as you’re ready to.

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.

Oh, and I'm with you on wasps. 100%

Thanks Jonny. Getting slowly into the swing of the colony although my writer's head is shouting 'you don't need any more distractions!' This seems a very supportive community so hope to delve more. Becky X

Not pasta or salad, but I do a mean sliced steak on a bed of lentils and sundried tomatoes.
