• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Hello everyone!

I came here from Twitter (darn thing, good for some things). I'm still feeling my way around here, bit overwhelming. From what I've seen so far, lots of friendly, welcoming, helpful, creative folks from around the world. I'm glad I've joined (and I'm glad there's lots of how-to info from Pete, because I don't think I have any 'N' in my Myers–Briggs score).

After 42 years in the US, and a short three year stint in Spain, I now live in Mexico.

My favorite authors: Jim Harrison, Kazuo Ishiguro, Michael Ondaatje, Shehan Karunatilaka, Stephen King, Laura Esquivel.

I write longhand for the rough draft and I have way too many books that I started reading and haven't finished (looking at you, Michael Crichton and The Great Train Robbery).

Don't know what else to say except looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome aboard @ApoloniaL :) What do you write?
I finished a novel (think Jim Harrison's THE ENGLISH MAJOR meets Ned Vizzini's IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY). I'm working on a Dicken's retelling. I have a comic caper in mind. These last two weeks I've been researching a political satire. I love comedy and black humor.

I love comedy, just suck at writing it (I keep beating the dead donkey), lol. Yours sounds great! Don't know your comps, but I know Dickens. When you're ready, I'd love to read some too xx r

Hi @ApoloniaL , a very warm welcome to the colony.

Nice to have you here and do feel free to dive straight in.

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) and will show a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.
