• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

Birdsong melded

with forest fragrance

.

butterflies danced

the exuberance of life

.

while I sipped

Chateau Le Touron,

Monbazillac.

.

I bathed

in the warm glow

of good fortune

.

as a gentle breeze

blew wispy cloud

across a painter’s sky

.

and then she appeared

with her soft

Mediterranean eyes

.

and the je ne sais quoi

of her Gallic mystique

.

and reality froze

when she sang

with her angel’s voice,

Bonjour, Monsieur.”

.

My mind flashed

across 50 years

to a thousand falters

that had brought me

to this moment

in this paradise.

.

Oui, bonnie lass,

a very good day.”

I had to read it a 2nd time for enjoyment. The first time I was waiting for the mickle punchline.

Maybe a softer punchline this time @Pamela Jo. She was actually a young lady on a bicycle delivering the post in rural France a few years ago. But she had 'these' eyes and 'this' voice. Funny how a moment from life can throw up a little inspiration.

Very True. My cousin's husband died of a heart attack, I just found out. I'll never forget him walking across pasture towards us in Navy uniform. Her face so proud and God he was handsome. Of course she was already pregnant and he was hispanic so OH HOW THE TONGUES DID WAG. But they were a love match and raised two wonderful kids. In my head we are still those young people.

Heart attacks. Two of the loveliest women I have known widowed by them. One husband died on the sidewalk outside their Brooklyn apartment, walking their daughter home from grade school, cell phone in hand, calling his widow. The other, a computer system architect, died surrounded by medical doctors at the headquarters of a major medical company.

Love to you and your family.
