• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Poetry Counterfeit Devils

The World Between the Words
When I stared into the maw of fury
And held myself upright, though my body shook and faltered
The roar, though momentary
Seemed forever.
When I buckled under pressure
Under the weight of the world and the weight of my shame
I knew there was nothing could raise me
But the will which told me to stand.
When the great expanse of darkness
Threatened to take me from existence, and those around me
Celebrated the aesthetics of evil
With cardboard and make-up and flying fists,
There was the crossroad.
Intrigue and awe do not sway me, not in the world of make-believe
Not in a world of counterfeit devils
I’ve been to the threshold and looked beyond
Yet I live.
Show me a lifetime of kindness, rather than the ego of heroism
Show me the art of relenting amidst the storm
Give me the truth beyond the honeyed lies
And let me hear the quiet song that dissolves in time.
