• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

So here it is, folks – not from Taylor Swift, Gaga or Sam Smith… but from the Colony’s own equivalents thereof (you may have to push your mind’s natural limits to accommodate this simile…).

It’s a new video from @Sedayne, @Vagabond Heart and @Jonny explaining how to use the Lab!

Our critiquing system here is very different to others you may have seen or experienced. The Litopia Method is rooted in practicality, not theory.

Whether you’ve currently got a hot project in development or not, I do urge you to get involved in the Lab. As the video explains, while the benefits to the author whose work is being critiqued are major, the benefits to those giving critiques are even more substantial.

Have a look and post any comments below.

Nothing about Litopia frightens me as much as giving other people written critiques.

Nothing about Litopia has frightened me more than making this video!

But yes, critiquing can be daunting.
Does it help to reframe it as giving encouragement rather than giving criticism?
It's your opinion as a reader that's needed. Does it engage you? Would you read on? Is there a anything that particularly intrigued you? Is there anything you found confusing? That kind of thing. It can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, but often it's better to keep it simple. Ultimately, the writer is responsible for their own work, and it's up to them to take or leave the opinions offered.
