    Something different

Thanks Marc I applaud your cynicism. My feeling is that it would be unlikely to generate much profit, but would nevertheless serve to show that those from less privileged backgrounds can play an important part in trying to save the natural world.

Here's the answer I got. Any thoughts on the best format for this potential book would be very welcome. At the moment we're considering either 1) donating a percentage of the proceeds to an environmental/sustainability cause related to Terra Incognita or 2) donating a book for every XX sold -...

I guess a book would give some permanence to the idea, but will have to ask about the proceeds.

I recently entered a competition for "Wildlife Blogger of the Year". https://www.terra-incognita.travel/category/wildlife-blogger-of-the-year/wildlife-blogger-of-the-year-2018-entries The organisers "Terra Incognita" an eco travel firm, are thinking of making a book from all the entries, and I...

Creating characters: Am I missing something,?

This is surely one of the problems with creative writing classes, and "how to do it" books. I like the kill/die tests from Nmlee, but apart from that I think it's important to develop your own style, and this forum can help with that.

    Male Voice to Join Pop-Ups

If being deaf doesn't pose problems I would be glad to do some readings. I would also like to try the Sunday sessions, but have been too worried about not being able to hear what's happening.

Help Please! Looking for an arc!

Does a control freak ever become a follower? More likely the other way round I would think, but will be interested to see what the others have to say.

    Badger Poo. And Wombat Poo.

I do volunteering in a deer park which also has lots of badgers. I know of several badger latrines where they dig a shallow scrape and crap in the same area as a number of other badgers. I've never got down & dirty though so don't know what they smell like. Dogs rolling in fox poo and other...

Oh my gosh, you won't believe it!

Interesting question. I suppose a conventional response would be "show don't tell". Sometimes leaving . . . between spoken words can convey fear or grief. A strong character might show uncharacteristic weakness - shoulders drooping perhaps.

    jólabókaflóðið

True, and I found the perfect one at a place called Grettirslaug. Air temp in June around 10, water temp 40!

Before you do, check the temperature. Average summer high in Iceland is 13deg.

I'm baffled by the popularity of times. It looks boring and I don't find it particularly easy to read. My favourite is Lucida sans, which is used by the British National Trust on all their signs and publications.

    Can a blog be Literature?

Co-incidence strikes. Just as I was writing a reply to Rich above, Carol Rose was posting this. I agree with her entirely. Anyone who takes care with how they write, who listens to the sound and rhythm of it, going for clarity and directness, rather than what sounds "writerly", those are the...

    Can a blog be Literature?

I feel we are to a certain extent dictated to by the trend setters on the internet. A good example is the change in the last few years from "bored with" to "bored of". The latter is now accepted as normal but still grates to my generation. I looked up its origin and found that in America they...
