I’m in a minority on this for sure, but I never found the “eyes” either in the text itself or on the original book jacket to be persuasive. “Gatsby” is iconic in a great many ways, its stature has only grown over the decades (Jay Gatsby / Elon Musk?) but those eyes… never did it for me, I’m afraid. What were they actually supposed to signify that the innocent gaze of Nick Carraway couldn’t do better? Again, I may be missing something…
