It's our first show of the new year, folks!
On today's Pop-Ups there's women's fiction/romance by Corinna, literary fiction by David, science fiction by Mike, a chapter book by Zoltan, mainstream general fiction by Ann and a political thriller by Sam.

Pete, I sent my submission in last September but I've still not been featured in pop-ups. I'm told the current waiting time is about 7 weeks, so am I still pending or has something gone awry, should I re-submit? My sub is called The Kaleidoscope Man, by Gillian Webbwalker (thanks!).

Yes, it's due next week!
Our backlog is increasing, it's true. Need to consider options...

Hi Pete,

It would be great to read the submissions as they come in, allowing the users to provide their own feedback or/and audio reading during the week. Then on the Sunday it would give you more time on discussing the submissions rather than presenting them.

For me getting the insider perspective is the best bit. :D

That would be a good way of getting through more per show. But it wouldn't work for non Litopian as they wouldn't see the material.
Sorry if I'm gatecrashing. I just noticed you were talking to Pete.

I hope my internet connection picks up before next week. It was horrible last night, I couldn't maintain a connection at all and had to eventually give it up as a bad job. :(

I think that's a great point. It could be a great way to get people to sign up though :D

Peter deliberately, and for an important reason doesn't read in advance, Haze :) As you say, @AgentPete is the great draw, and he brings to bear an insider's up to date perspective on the current zeitgeist, and that's a crucial part of the value of the exercise for you brave writers.

The idea of the Pop-Ups is to replicate what happens behind the scenes, demonstrating an agent's very first impressions, and completely off the cuff response to a fresh submission. Yeah or nay, head scratching and all :) In a larger agency, this may well mean bouncing it off colleagues too.

There is so much highly evident talent coming in here over the transom, as there was last night, including your own submission. You are to be congratulated. But Peter has been at pains to preserve so far as he possibly can, the honesty and freshness of that all important initial reaction.

Hope we'll see more of you and more from you.

Excellent points, thank you so much.
I'm brand new to the literary world and like a sponge, I hope to soak up all this inside knowledge.

Looking forward to next weeks episode.

Whether front of house or in the chatroom, I'll look forward to that @yanapuma :)
Your feed back was great too ... I found it all very inspiring ... I'm pretty much writing alone here so its good to be around people again who are writing and obviously I'm interested in being published, when I'm good enough ... that's why I write ... someone not sure who mentioned Irish writing on the show ... not sure if they realise that Irish writing has been going through another golden age over the last few years ... Eimer McBride, Sally Rooney, Emma Donoghue, Anne Enright, Mike McCormack, Kevin Barry, Colum McCann and I could go on and on ... not sure the speaker on your show is aware of this ??? was it Pete?

I don't recall that comment...but you're right, and Peter's own top choice was the Irish writer's submission, though not based on that. The political thriller.
