I'm extending Pop-Up Submissions for the rest of January, i.e. the 14th, 21st and 28th.

I'm behind on almost everything at the moment, because of the 'flu. I've now shaken it off, but the residual is (a) tiredness and (b) some nasty bug is still trying to gain control over my upper resp tract. So... will only be be handling maybe half a dozen submissions each Sunday for a bit. (I only looked at six last week, and still managed to talk for two hours!)

I need to pace myself on this, because submissions are coming in quite fast now, certainly more than six a week, so I could get into an impossible situation... may have to close submissions for a time while I catch up. But for the moment, you can still submit as per the P-U Subs page.

Hi Agent Pete, I am so glad that you are feeling better! I, unfortunately, now have a too true flu myself right now. However, I did want you to know that I had actually joined Jan. 6th because I was searching for agents and came across your name in Agent Query and then, upon further looking you up, found out about The Colony. I did all that to submit my query to you just to see what your procedures were like and hopefully pick up a few tips. Which is something of a new terror for me because, as a rule, I usually keep to myself. I confess, I still am new to communication in this way. I don't Facebook, nor Twitter, nor anything of such nature. Yet, I guess it all boils down to how badly a person wants something. When you were unable to do Pop-Up Submissions due to your health, I told myself not to worry and put you on my calendar for 14th. Well, then I got ill on the 12th and remained miserable on my couch. By the 14th I had forgotten about anything except when the next time was that I could take more medicine. That morning I watched my church service and then logged on my email and found the good news about a request for my partial manuscript and was so excited that I couldn't even hold a thought. I was wondering if you had any advice on how long agents usually take when requesting partial manuscripts? Fortunately, I have the after effects of a cycle snow-bomb storm, freezing temperatures, the flu, and my job to keep me occupied for the present....

Glad you are feeling better, @AgentPete. That was obviously one 'orrible bout of flu!
Do pace yourself, coming back to the submissions, though. They are unbelievably valuable to us, but we don't want you burning yourself out on them!
(FWIW, I have nothing to bother you with, right now, so my conscious over your well being is clear! :p)

No firm rule here. However, writers are often too timid when it comes to chasing submissions. I think they sometimes feel that if they chase too hard, they'll "upset" the agent, and any potential relationship will have been jeopardized.

Well, I'm here to tell you that agents are pretty thick-skinned :) A friendly follow-up after a week ought not to put anyone's nose out of joint. It's a question of projecting confidence in your own work and value (even if you don't feel it!).

Just a quick clarification, please. I got it into my head that the Pop-Up began at 1900hrs but found on the 14th it had been running for a while before that. (I think I tuned in about 1840hrs, by chance). What time is it due to start on 21st and 28th? Thanks.

Hi Pete, Just wanted to follow up with you and tell you that I did take your suggestion and send a gently inquiring email as pertaining to the partial manuscript submission. Good thing I did, too, because I had replied to the original email sent by her assistant and the agent responded as soon as I re-sent the submission to her specific email address. She confirmed receipt, told me she looked forward to reading my work and she'd be in touch soon. In light of this, I was wondering if I might ask a small favor and ask you to withhold my pop-up submission from public review, please? I just would like to see this potential opportunity out for the duration - as a matter of courtesy. Please forgive me if this is not something easily done. Thank you in advance....

The original submission would have been sent to you January 6 or 7 and would be regarding P.I.N.T.S....from me, Tess, of course...
