Really interesting. Enjoyable submissions, thank you @AgentPete. I got called away part way through, unfortunately for me. Catching up on what I missed.

Over-writing's ubiquitous
Wordy bug-bear.
Beat that back
The spare and lean is
Elegant but rare.

Oh look, an inadvertent 'pome.' A truly dire inadvertent 'pome.'

Local Hero. Mentioned while reviewing the story about the detectorist and the coin. Adored that film. So did a lot of people. Such a feel-good film. Magic.

Useful to hear about the publisher's editing process. Wasn't sure if publishers still did editing, apart from line- editing.

The carpet weaver...would read better as an autobiography. Makes me think, probably inevitably, of 'The BookSeller of Kabul,' though that was a journalistic approach. But this writer's an insider. Why's he fictionalised? Self protection? Natural enough. And look what happened to the journalist afterwards, who wrote The Bookseller of Kabul

Thank you for another interesting session. I'm still technologically-challenged re joining the chat room, and I appreciate the videos to watch. Happy Monday.

The author has already had a lot of media coverage - he lives in the US - so I really don't know why he's chosen to fictionalise it...

The BookSeller of Kabul... that was an interesting case, wasn't it... raises a great many issues...

Until this Sunday, I have been able to watch Pop-up submissions on the Litopia facebook page without being a facebook member (a decision in which I feel vindicated, given recent events!) This Sunday I kept on getting a message saying that I needed to login in order to continue watching. This wasn't, strictly speaking, true, as the video continued to play, but some of the screen was partially obscured, and I wasn't able to view it in a maximised window. Just thought I'd mention this as if there was ever a decision to move to an alternative platform, I'd be fully behind it!

I misheard Pete's reference to Tim's discorded comment and heard "90 Dollars of Cheap" ... which seems like a great fiction title for something...
It was actually a reference to what was being discussed on Discord at the time about writing courses. Someone, I forget who, had said that an online course they had done that had cost $90 was rubbish. I replied that in my experience $90 was cheap for a writing course (I have paid much, much more) and that you get what you pay for. But so much other chatter was going on at the same time that it all got a bit out of context.

I’d totally be up for that… however… the accursed FB is still the No.1 platform for this sort of medium, notwithstanding they allegedly have lost 10% of their members recently. The ease with which non-Litopians can “discover” us on FB is astounding... look at some of the metrics and you’ll see. By contrast YouTube (which also offers a free streaming platform) can’t really hold a candle.

FB knows they’re the leaders in this area, and forbid you from streaming simultaneously elsewhere, i.e. they keep you tightly within their ecosystem… otherwise, we’d stream on YouTube, Twitch etc too.

The real cost of streaming as we do (several hours, hi-res) is mind-bogglingly high… so we do have to use a free platform, somehow...

Understood, and up till now the streaming has been flawless (some audio problems associated with my laptop notwithstanding), I think I'll sell my soul to the devil and create a very limited FB account, adding as little personal data as possible!
