• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

@Peyton Stafford I did. You shall.

I am looking forward to the discussion.

In case you enjoyed the book and want a little more.... Here's something I found:

This raised some interesting philosophical questions:

Awards:
Winner: 2018 Hugo Award for Best Novella
Winner: 2018 Nebula Award for Best Novella
Winner: 2018 Alex Award
Winner: 2018 Locus Award
One of the Verge's Best Books of 2017

Quote: "As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

I wasn't going to do questions, but what the hell. Here's a few... we can do em or ignore em.

- Did you assign a gender to Murderbot in your head? If so what was it? Why? Do you think that changed your perception of the character?
- Could you relate to wanting to just watch media and not have to deal with messy humans?
- Sometimes in stories about robots/cyborgs, the robot/cyborg wants human rights and to be more human. Murderbot did not want this. What did you think of that?
- How did you feel watching humans from an outside-human perspective?
- What did you think of the ending?

And for @James Charles :
- There were a lot of characters to track in the opening. Did the opening grab you?
- We definitely live inside this character's head for the duration of the story. What did you think of all the internalizing of Murderbot?

And for @MattScho :
Please discuss how you think Murderbot is like Dexter.

@Jason L. if you're not planning to come (sadness) what happens with the link? I think it's one that you need to start to let the rest of us in?

Jason, I assume you'll be in the room for the pre-game session, starting at 8:30. or 2:30 to you. If not, you will be missed.
I will be getting my updates from Claudia, but my money would be on Baby Lasagna. I know, your's is a serb friendly house and, boo, Croatia. But the lyric, "I've got to leave now, i even sold my cow", well, it's not often we stumble across poetry at that level.

@LJ Beck the link will work without me, but I will start it off and then go.

I like Switzerland, but Austria has a shot. Israel has a good song and that woman can sing but she hasn't got a prayer. France was good. Italy was good.

I know, the Croatian one sticks in your head.

If you want to delay for next week that's up to you - let me know.

I thought of it as male because of its determination to protect.

That's why I am on Litopia and responding to you, babe.

He was more human than most of us. That was fully human.
- How did you feel watching humans from an outside-human perspective?
Fine. I watch them, too.
- What did you think of the ending?
If I recall correctly, Tor and Tom Doherty gave away this book as a teaser, so the ending was a teaser or the next paid-for stories.
Who is babe and how is this appropriate?

I recall other times not being let in due to organizer in another meeting or something like that. If it’s easier for you, I can make a link, let me know.

I’d rather not reschedule as I have something on next weekend that I planned around this. So I won’t be able to come next weekend.

I set up my meetings so that the can go on without me, but what I'll do is come in early, get it started, and then go off to cheer against Croatia.

Okay, 1. I am a huge fan of murderbot, in book three right now and enjoying it.
2. The northern lights are visible tonight, starting soon after book club starts. Seeing the northern lights is a top 3 remaining bucket list item for me Viewing is supposed to be perfect from about 10 pm to 11 pm, just outside the light pollution of Berlin (1 percent cloud cover). I wanted to tick this off last night, but total cloud cover

Enjoy Matt! Northern Lights for sure take precedence. I would so love to see that.

Seems we're going to be a bit light for this one. Other than Peyton, has anyone else read the book who's coming?
