Hey @Chase Gamwell , two questions,

A) I seem to have lost my spell-checker thingy here. Until about two/three mothns ago, I used to have a red squiggle underneath mis-spelled words. It has gone. I think it happened after Pete, and/or you, made a tecchie change to the site, but that might have been co-incidental. Anyway, any idea how to get it back? I'm using the same browser as always.

and

B) Is there a way to stop email notifications to specific threads? i.e. to the ones where newbees introduce themselves. It would be nice to choose which threads to continue to keep updates for, but stop those which I feel are completed for me.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Barbara - for email notifications click on your pic and choose privacy from the drop down menu. You can change email notifications there I believe.

Hi Barbara. Very often it is the settings on the machine you are using that have the spell-checker 'thingy' on them lol.

Which browser and operating system are you using?
@David Newrick , I'm using the latest windows (10, I think?). The browser, I use google.

But I have the same problem when I use the site on my tablet, or phone.

@Amber , I did see that, but it looks like it simply turns off all email notifications, as opposed to giving me a selection where I could choose which ones I'd like to continue to recieve. Not sure I'm making sense. Maybe I misread that, do you know?

Hi Babara.
In answer to question B.
On the second menu at the top there is a tab labelled Watched.
If you click that you will see all the threads you are currently watching (ie getting alerts for) some of them will have "email" next to a little tick box on the right. These are the ones you are getting email for. If you tick the box (you can tick several at the same time) and then go to the bottom of the list the drop down there gives you the option to disable email notification on the ones ticked. Select that and then click the Go button.

I’ll have to tweak those settings myself since I never got an email notification when you pinged me @Barbara (via email or on the site). Either way, thanks to @Tim James and company for answering Barbara’s question.

As to that pesky squiggly red line - that should be a setting in chrome. Try heading to settings. At the bottom, click “show advanced settings”, then scroll down to “languages”. Click on “languages and input settings” and there should be an option enable spell checking. Try resetting that in the browser (turn it off and turn it back on again). Hopefully, that fixes the issue. If not, I can do some additional digging.

Hi @Chase Gamwell . Thanks for getting back to me. Don't worry about the delay. Squiggly red isn't the most important thing in life. :)

I just had a go at what you said. I don't have the 'language and input settings' only 'language'. There is a bit called 'spell checker' which says 'disabled'. But I can't find a button to enable it. I do have a 'reset settings' bit but I haven't tried that yet in case I lose my home pages. Any thoughts?

Hmmm...I'll have to take a look at Chrome on my PC at home (we can't use Chrome at work T.T). I have the same general OS/browser setup as you, so I can take a look and see if I have the same options. If so, I can see what's going on.
