    Hello writers!

This months prompts will be given by: @KG Christopher, @David Newrick, @Chase Gamwell and @Peggy Lou.

My prompt is 'Hanging on'. Thanks to @Chase Gamwell for the prompt 'The Void', to @David Newrick for the prompt ' Reasons' and to @KG Christopher for the prompt: 'Touch ever so softly'.

Maximum word count at 50, please.

The Flash Club is open to all Litopians, it's *fun* first and foremost, so don't get caught up or stressed over it. You don't have to contribute, but if you are new to writing, it's a good place to start and get your toes wet. And if you're an experienced writer, flash writing can be an important part of your regular writing practice.

You can make as many contributions as you like.

There are no winners or losers! From time to time, some entries will be chosen to appear on the main Litopia site. So make your entries interesting, challenging - perhaps highlighting a specific writing technique?

Remember, the Litopian code of conduct takes precedence in all situations.

    Have fun!

    Facing The Void

One day we'll face the void.
    There's no avoiding this
    It's how we came
    It's how we'll go
    Alone, we leap the Abyss.

Hanging on over an icy precipice, I smile. To hide all these years and years, and to die here, die now - yes. That would keep the secret safe forever. No-one would know if I exist or not. No, I know. That is enough.

    With that Bigfoot let go.

What a brilliant challenge! Here's what I came up with. It's exactly 50 words without the title.

Death of A Big Game Hunter

    Remember me?

    My fearful symmetry?

    Here you are

    Helpless in bed

    Old, haggard, hanging on

    Edging towards the void

    You claim reasons

    For your murders

    Including mine

    But such reasons

    Are not acceptable

    I will now

    Touch ever so softly

    Your face

And let paw do the work

    Of claws

This one's a bit darker, but I tried to include all of the prompts within. Hope it worked! :D

    The Proposition (46 words)

    Shining steel: a polished edge.

With barest push, her hopes did hedge.

Then blood spilled, crimson and warm.

    Upon lily satin, indelibly adorned.

    Threefold propositions, charmingly rebuffed.

The fourth, more forceful, was quite enough.

The blade, unexpected. Final. And true.

Ensured his fate: one long overdue.

'Queen Victoria is opening the Great Exhibition in that massive Crystal Palace I hear', Robin sat in the chair, undid his neckerchief then tilted his head backwards. Glancing sideways impatiently he said, 'Why do you spend so long sharpening that razor.'

'I have my reasons', said Sweeny Todd.

"Goodnight, sweetheart." His lips touched my cheek ever so softly.
Our marriage had become a loveless void, passion died years ago, but we had reasons for hanging on to this contract of mutual convenience. Today I broke it. Tomorrow when he wakes, I'll be gone.

I sat at the corner table of a little cafe and watched them through the glass. His hand brushed her cheek, and I marveled at the sight of him touching her ever so softly. Stupid boy. She'll end his life, too. She can't help it - it's in her genes.

    Reasons for bedtime(50)

    "Why?"
    "You're tired."
"But you get to stay up late even though you're tired. You were snoring on the sofa just then."
I looked him straight in the eye, absolutely - sincerely - serious. "There are reasons you will know when you are a father. The main one is: … just because."

To the poor souls who suffered in Grenfell towers. If you think it's in bad taste, I shall take it down. But I just feel awful for the torture some suffered.

My whole soul shudders at the thought of hanging on.
Aching to imagine, how hard it must have felt.
I imagine first, the physical environment.
    The burning, screaming, stinging eyes.
    The realisation of smelling flesh.
And then I delve deeper, to imagine horrors.
To strangle children, or jump from heights.

    The Watch

There is a man called Live and he does survive. Please watch. When I enter my house, my television recognizes me and starts talking. I am not hanging on the void, the reasons, the watch stops for the man to survive, his death. It does touch ever so softly.
